Eagle CO
The town of Eagle was settled by William Edwards in 1887, who first called it Brush and then Castle. In 1891, the name was changed to Eagle. In 1893, A.A. McDonald bought the land and in 1895 he renamed the town McDonald. In 1896, the town property was sold for taxes and the name changed back to Eagle.
Eagle originally supported miners, but the area was soon found to be better suited for farming and cattle ranching. The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad came through in 1891.
The residents of Eagle waged a long-running battle to become the county seat, with elections in 1895, 1904, and 1912 before winning in 1921.
